This article explains how to use the React Mobile Nexus Device's 'hot mic' during an alert. Press the main button 5 times rapidly to start an alert, indicated by a flashing red LED. The device joins an alert channel, allowing Responders with voice licenses to listen in without pressing the button. When a Responder joins, the LED flashes blue and red. Responders can communicate via Push-To-Talk, after which the device returns to hot mic mode. Once resolved, the LED turns green, and the device returns to its home channel. Hot mic works only during active alerts.

In this article, you will learn how to utilize the 'hot mic' function on the React Mobile Nexus Device during an alert.

  1. To initiate an alert in case of emergency, press the main button 5 times in rapid succession.

  2. The React Mobile Nexus Device LED will begin flashing RED, indicating the device is in an alert state.
    • Once the alert is initiated, the device will disconnect from its home channel, then create and join a separate alert channel.
  3. Once a Responder with a voice license chooses to respond to the alert, the React Mobile Nexus Device will become a 'Hot Mic', meaning the Responder can listen in on the device, either from the mobile application or the online Portal.
    • While the device is in 'Hot Mic' state, it is unnecessary for the alert initiator to press and hold the button to send voice communications.
  4. The React Mobile Nexus Device LED will begin to flash BLUE and RED once a Responder joins the alert.
  5. At this time, Responders can evaluate the situation, and interrupt the 'Hot Mic' to communicate via Push-To-Talk with the React Mobile Nexus Device if necessary.
  6. After the Responder finishes their Push-To-Talk, the React Mobile Nexus Device will return to 'Hot Mic' status, allowing Responders to resume listening in on the device.
  7. Continue to work with Responders to resolve the situation.
  8. Once Responders confirm the user is safe, they can resolve the alert via the online Portal or the mobile application.
  9. When the alert is resolved, the flashing RED LED for the React Mobile Nexus Device will stop, then change to a GREEN LED for 5 seconds. At this time, the device will disconnect from the alert channel, join back to its home channel, then resume its use as a radio.

Important: Hot mic will only engage on a React Mobile Nexus Device while it is in an active alert state. It is not possible to listen in on a button's hot mic otherwise.
